Lake Chapala, Mexico Travel Diary

Lake Chapala is Mexico’s largest freshwater lake and is known for having the second best climate IN THE WORLD. My dad has retired and moved to Lake Chapala so I got the pleasure to visit over Christmas and the New Year.  I wanted to share some photos that I took while visiting.

Day 1: My dad technically lives in San Antonio (No, not Texas) so the first day we just travelled and walked around his little town and ate some yummy shrimp tacos.

Day 2: We walked around Ajijic farmers market where they sell fresh fruits, flowers, art and random accessories. Then we had a little happy hour at my dad’s friends beautiful home.

Day 3: We drove into Guadalajara to see the old historic buildings. We saw beautiful churches, the Oprah house, and other buildings and then went to the mall to have another delicious lunch. Believe me when I say the pictures do not do it justice.

Day 4: We walked around San Antonio a little more and then went into Lake Chapala to see the town, where there was a little fair going on with rides and shopping. We got to see a little more of the poor side of Lake Chapala. Little boys walking around begging for money instead of being a kid and playing with their friends. Stray dogs everywhere, starving on the side of the road alongside other animals. I swear if I could of I would of came home with 12 dogs. Seeing this part of Mexico (and in Guadalajara too) it really made me think about my life and how truly blessed I am to live the life I have.

Day 5 and 6: We just took these two days to relax in the sun, eat good food, and drink way too much wine. Btw, if you are ever in Ajijic you should go visit this restaurant called “Go” the food was delicious and the owner is super involved and adorable.

If you’ve made it this far, congratulations. I know there’s so many photos, but Mexico is such a beautiful country and I wanted to share my experience. I hope you enjoyed them just as much as I have.
